Question: Under what conditions is water most likely to spill from a pan when the pan is carried around an oval race track?
Purpose: To carry a pan of water around an oval race track in an effort to determine the conditions under which the water is most likely to be spilled from the pan.

2,000 mL (original amount) + 1,000 mL (trial 1 addition) + 250 mL (trial 2 addition) = 3,250 mL
3,250 mL (total amount added) - 260 mL (amount left) = 2,990 mL H2O (spilled)

Conclusion:
The water was most likely to spill when we would go faster. The faster we would walk, the more water would spill onto the track or onto the tray.

Discussion:
Newton’s First Law of Motion states that when an object is at rest, it stays at rest and when an object is in motion, it stays in motion with the same speed and direction unless acted upon an unbalanced force. The results were expected. By walking with a tray filled to the top with water, it was bound to spill because we were going in the same direction and relatively the same speed but it was an “unbalanced force.” Out of the 3,250 milliliters of water that we had in total, 2,990 of water milliliters were spilled. Therefore, Newton’s law is correct in the sense that the motion was acted upon by the unbalanced force.
